After some years of reschooling, we soon realized that we could not help all these children out of destitution for good if we did not give them the opportunity of a proper job. But in a country where hardly any kind or valid training exists, we had to create it ourselves.

Vocational training

Training adapted to the job market

We were not allowed to make any mistakes. We had taken into our care children from impoverished families who had to accept loss of income through allowing their children to go to school. And now we could not risk committing them to a dead-end. We knew only too well, throughout the world, of low-grade trainings where youths tinkered with engines for 3 to 6 months, received a beautiful diploma, and then, disappointingly, could not find a job.

We did not want poor training for the poor, but the best for the poorest, because they only have their skills to find employment.

Practical work is priority!

Hands-on teaching is an important part of the professional training to enable the students to be fully prepared for their job at the end of their studies.

Each training sector

- Offers the same equipment that our students will find later on in local companies. For this reason we have built a hotel and a restaurant, hairdresser and spa facilities, a mechanical shop, created gardens in our centre, and set up the fictive company "Khyol" for secretarial and business training.
- Is based on the principle to alternate teaching, hours of practice, and internships in companies.

OFFICE FOR PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATION

During the preparatory year the office for professional orientation helps the young people to find out which profession is the most convenient for each one, taking into consideration his/her educational level, competencies, and talents, as well as the job market and existing training possibilities. A certain number of students register for external trainings if we cannot take them into the Centre. However, our teams follow up with them as they do for all students at PSE.

OFFICE FOR EXTERNAL RELATIONS TO FACILITATE JOB RESEARCH

img_1588The professional training sector also includes an Office for External Relations to facilitate the research for internships and first employments. The office is staffed by seven commercials who have a permanent contact to local companies and organizations.

Today, 2,000 students who have finished their professional training are integrated into professional life in Cambodia! !

HOUSING FOR STUDENTS

A small "village" of 10 houses in the northern part of the Centre, is home to more than one hundred young people whose families, according to our social team's survey, could not offer appropriate conditions for following their studies at home...

INTEGRATION CENTRES TO START A PROFESSIONAL LIFE OUTSIDE PHNOM-PENH

centre_pse_siem_reapParticularly attractive for tourists, Siem Reap (Angkor) and Sihanoukville offer a large range of employment opportunities. We, therefore, have created in both cities integration centers for students pursuing an internship or starting their professional activity.

Several factors pushed us to set up those centers. First, employers do not like to hire young people for whom nobody is responsible. Our centers designate appropriate contact persons and assistance in case of problems.

Second, it is impossible to have young people, in particular girls, start their professional career in an unknown city, far away from their families, and without any support. And third, the young graduates need to be guided to manage their daily life (salary, money to send to their family, economies, etc.) We allow two years for the girls and six months for the boys to get ready for an independent life or find a suitable solution for themselves. It is true, that many of them leave the Centre earlier.

More than 180 young people are in Higher Education.
